141: "Yes, and…" Your Approach to Aging

A season four episode (Episode Seven) of a favorite streaming series, Apple TV's Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis), introduced me to a fresh way of thinking about life, and certainly about the aging journey. Coach Alice (Tanya Reynolds) for the AFC Richmond Lady Greyhounds was attempting to reframe her

change

117: "One Degree" of Effort Could Be All You Need

It's amazing how one small degree of change can make a difference. For example, at 211 degrees water is merely "hot." But...at 212 degrees water boils. That one degree of change in the water's temp would produce the necessary steam to power a

114: Viable Aging is Worth the Search

There's both truth and myth associated with a colorful rainbow that stretches across the sky following or during a rainstorm. Atmospheric moisture illuminated by sunlight: truth. A "pot of gold" at the end of it: myth. No one that I know of has actually searched for

110: Aging Isn't Optional, How You Age is Up to You

What's your secret? That question assumes there's something about you that's peaking someone's curiosity. In the aging context, it could be your stamina, your youthful glow, your resilient attitude, or any of a number of observable qualities. As I age, I'

101: 3 Good Pieces of Aging Advice

The older you become the more you realize that advice isn't in short supply. But when you reach a certain age (I'll let you pick a number) giving and receiving advice is relative. Although, restraint with regards to giving advice is essential as you age (if

finding peace

098: Want Sanity and Peace? It's All About What You Cultivate

How often do you focus on the "weeds" in your neighbors yard instead of giving attention to your own "weeds?" During the lawn care seasons of Spring and Summer few things create a sense of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) more than hearing a neighbors lawn

stillness

096: Enhance Your Longevity with Less Noise, Less Nosy Meddling, and Less Inactivity

Some written narratives are like a Swiss Army Knife - practical and functional when you need it. I see this biblical reference having that type of practicality. "Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business, and working with your hands... - 1 Thessalonians 4:11 NLT

sustainable lifestyle

092: The Case for a More Sustainable Lifestyle as You Age

It's amazing how when you're young you give little if any thought to pacing yourself. I mean, why should you? You have energy to burn and not much holding you back. As you age, well, you tend to feel burned out and prefer to hold yourself

hope

077: Hope is a Powerful Thing

It is indeed powerful - hope, that is! As it's Good Friday 2025 (when this issue is being published), hope is the essence. However you reflect, celebrate, or generally acknowledge the Easter weekend my hope is that your hope gives you energy, awareness, and purpose to keep going. I&

longevity

076: Longevity Adds More Than Years to Your Life

How often do you think about longevity? It's a common topic especially in the aging, health, and wellness zone. Whether or not you give a lot of thought to the topic, I encourage you to clarify your thinking about it. Sure, there's a substantial scientific component

living on purpose

073: Make Sure You Cover Your Axis

How often do you think about what your life revolves around? Or to put it another way: what's the axis of your life - especially as you age? Life evolves but it also revolves. You might often hear a birthday referred to as "another trip around the sun.

072: There's More to a Rewarding Life than Recognition and Awards

It's amazing how a simple request can trigger wondering or doubt about your personal accomplishments. That happened to me recently when I was asked to share any awards or recognitions I had received relative to my career as a writer. I went blank and then I was like,

effortlessness

070: Habits for Effortless Aging

You see it in athletes. Some musicians, actors, and actresses exemplify it. It's effortlessness. That captivating quality that rises above the striving and struggle within a skill, talent, or energy being expended. Effortlessness is achievable for those mentioned above but before you dismiss it thinking it's

065: My Word for the Year and How It Could Positively Impact Your Aging Journey

For a few years I've selected a word for the year. It's more of a compass bearing to stay on track and help me avoid randomness in my daily life. This year's word (drumroll...) is... "Agency" No, I'm not doing

062: Frustrated by the Resolution Ritual? Fix Your Focus Instead

Did you ever wonder why you set New Year goals or resolutions and come February (or sooner) you're back to square one? Old habits die hard, am I right? But new habits or at least the desire to change up some things in your life should at least

setbacks

053: Why Setbacks Aren't Necessarily Setups as You Age

It’s amazing how something in your life could be going downhill. In reality it could be nothing more than a momentary setback. Setbacks can often feel like setups as you age. Here's what I mean by that... I’m training for a 2025 half marathon as we

048: The 3 Rs of a Resilient Life

Are you old enough to remember the 3 R's? If you're not...well, ask a parent (or someone over the age of 50). Dating back to the 19th century, the 3 Rs refer to what for all these years formed the basics of our educational system.

045: A 45 Day Refresher for the Growth and Longevity Minded

There's no magic with the number 45. But there is a reason I choose to highlight it in this (our 45th) issue. 90-day plans...a 90-day this or that gets all the press. At this point in your life you might be weary of that span

life drama

043: Are You Setting the Stage for Drama as You Age?

It's amazing how drama can follow you throughout your life. I mean, who wakes up and says, "I'm planning to attract drama into my life today"? But it happens. By drama I'm referring to the emotional, physical, or otherwise triggering baggage that

039: A Type of Still-ness You'll Want to Deal With as You Age

It's a simple word that might not sound like a big deal. But it could be among the most dangerous words in your growth and longevity vocabulary. The word is: "still." There are alternative and certainly beneficial uses of the word. But in this context, consider

038: What a Road Trip Can Teach You About Keeping Things in Perspective
